Conserving Nature and Cut Poverty

Madagascar’s wealth is highly related to conservation. In addition to biodiversity uniqueness, local population highly rely on them to survive. Unfortunately, these resources are overused and there is a lack of law enforcement that enables conservation activities to move forward.

Given the situation, Fanamby decided to focus on finding alternative source of income that will enable local communities to improve their standard of living. Thus, it collaborates with structured and formalized associations that are properly trained to meet the international standards. Only once we meet basic needs of the local communities, such as access to food, drinkable water and health, can we raise awareness for a sustainable management of the existing protected areas.

Various articles, including the one published by the Telegraph, are talking about Fanamby's successes stories throughout the island. It is proven that positive changes can only occur with long-term investment in local communities. Responsible value chains provide the solution for managing protected areas in the long run.
