Approach

Given the conservation crisis and the issues of poverty in Madagascar, Fanamby is engaged in boosting local and regional development with the mobilization and engagement of all the stakeholders. The goal is to alleviate the pressure on natural ressources by providing sustainable alternatives.

Our approach involves:

  1. Good governance of the natural capital through local communities empowerment: in order to properly manage their own wealth, local communities and authorities need to know the laws and regulations related to natural ressources management, the benefits and responsibilities, the shared governance within harmonious landscape, the responsibility of each stakeholders: local communities/ private sector/ authorities/ State
  2. Participatory management of the territory through the application of the established management plan of natural ressources as a tool to ensure sustainability. Also, the participatory management empowers local communities while securing local investment that will impact the economy. The latter will improve the standard of living of the households.
  3. Sustainable financial mechanism within the territory. In fact, new protected areas are usually depending on limited funds for specific activities required by donors. Fanamby aims to change this by promoting diverse and strong social enterprises. The later is mainly owned by local communities living within the protected areas managed by Fanamby. They shall allocate special funds to finance biodiversity conservation within the territory while supporting common social needs for their benefit and those of the biodiversity. Therefore, Fanamby engages enterprises that are committed to long term program to develop local enterpreneurship while empowering local communities implicated in transparent value chains within their protected areas.
