Tiana Andriamanana to Bring Fanamby's Visions to Climate Week 2024

As the world prepares for a United Nations climate summit, Fanamby, represented by its Executive Director, Tiana Andriamanana, will be taking the voice of Fanamby and the cause of local communities to Climate Week.

The event will bring together world leaders, international authorities and key environmental players. More than 600 initiatives, including conferences, workshops and debates, offer the opportunity to actively participate in discussions to shape, exchange, collaborate and find sustainable solutions for the future of the planet.

It will take place from 22 to 29 September 2024 in New York City in the United States.

A Platform for Environmental Players

Climate Week 2024 is taking place at a time when global warming is progressing at an alarming rate. The effects of climate change are already having a worrying impact, particularly on local communities. Water scarcity, soil erosion and rising temperatures have a direct impact on their daily lives.

This year, the central theme will be the transition to a carbon-neutral world and the resilience of local communities.

The presence of Madagascar and Fanamby at Climate Week is of great importance. Fanamby will be voicing the concerns of local communities and taking part in a number of major events:

  • A presentation with the IUCN on the theme of “Leaving no one behind: acting together to advance peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations”. For more information, please follow this link: IUCN @ UNGA79 - events | IUCN,
  • Events with Maliasili, through sessions organized by Maliasili, alongside African leaders, donors and international NGOs. These practical exchanges will aim to improve financing practices and mobilize more resources to strengthen the capacities of local organizations. Climate Week NYC 2024 will provide a platform to showcase leading climate actions and discuss how to do more. For more information please follow this link: New York Climate Week — Maliasili.

Their presence will highlight the challenges faced by these communities and promote effective solutions to strengthen their resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Forest Conservation at the Service of Community Resilience

Tiana Andriamanana will highlight the importance of preserving Madagascar's tropical forests in our transition to a carbon-neutral future. She will highlight how the conservation actions carried out by Fanamby have been essential in reducing deforestation in several of its protected areas.

These actions are essential for maintaining biodiversity and regulating the climate.

Indeed, forest conservation plays a central role in the resilience of local communities.

Thanks to them, local communities can develop sustainable incomes. Forests provide vital resources, support livelihoods and enhance food security.

By reducing deforestation and spreading sustainable practices, Fanamby is helping communities to better cope with the impacts of climate change, while preserving their cultural heritage and improving their general well-being.

Reducing deforestation in Menabe Antimena

Fanamby has taken up the challenge of reducing the rate of deforestation in one of the most fire-prone areas: Menabe Antimena. This Protected Area suffered devastating fires in 2018 and 2019.

This climate week will be an opportunity for Fanamby to demonstrate that the loss of biodiversity is not inevitable, but rather a challenge that can be met if the right factors are brought together: the commitment of stakeholders, appropriate funding for conservation and alternative livelihoods for local communities.

It's time...

Our message at Climate Week will be clear: it's time to act (Climate Week NYC 2024: It’s Time | Climate Week)

Nature offers concrete solutions for combating climate change. Restoring degraded land, halting deforestation and protecting ecosystems are high-impact actions that can help reduce by more than a third the emissions needed to meet the Paris Agreement targets.

To achieve these results, we work closely with local communities to tackle environmental challenges and find sustainable solutions for our ecosystems.

“Plant the right tree in the right place and nature will do the rest.” Tiana Andriamanana
