Fanamby is a non profit organization managing marine and terrestrial protected areas. We preserve Harmonious Landscapes through sustainable management of the natural capital.

It started with the management of five forests blocks in Loky- Manambato and the establishment of the forest corridor of Anjozorobe Angavo until 2003, in which Fanamby decided to be involved in the expansion of the protected areas in Madagascar through the Vision Durban.

In 2003, Fanamby finalized the temporary protection of the Menabe Antimena and the Allée of the Baobabs, a jewel for Madagascar. This will be followed by the corridor of Andrafiamena Andavakoera, last home of the Sifaka of Perrieri, in 2007.

Fanamby have faced the various socio-political crisis throughout the years and decided that, in order to ensure sustainable management of the new protected areas, alternative source of income for the local communities is a must to reduce pressures in forests and littoral areas. Thus, in 2008, Fanamby launch the first community based-tourism in Madagascar through Saha Forest Camp thanks to UNDP support, the full involvment of Antsahabe communities and the implication of world office of Tourism.  With this experience, Fanamby continue to support and build the local communities capacities professionalizing and structuring them within an association or a federation, strong enough to face international markets and support conservation activities in their areas of activies.

En 2010, at the request of Antsahabe communities and local associations, Fanamby created the economic interest group “SAHANALA” meaning "fields in the forest" in Malagasy. With the support of two private sector representatives, a dozen of producers learned to apply the norms to their products according to the laws and legislation, to meet international standards while promoting Malagasy quality worldwide. Since then, Sahanala has evolved and in 2019, is joined by Archers Daniel Midland - a US processing company-, to become one of the largest social enterprises in Madagascar with 5 700 producters invested in responsible sourcing. Fanamby remains on the board of Sahanala to support them in their environmental choices and to ensure that they also support conservation activities in the protected areas they are involved.

In 2015, Fanamby obtained the decree of definitive creation of the new protected areas ofAndrafiamena Andavakoera, Loky Manambato, Menabe Antimena, l’Allée des Baobabs, and Anjozorobe Angavo out of the 122 created. These new protected areas total 574 731  hectares of harmonious landscapes and 320 hectares of natural monument.
