Dear Friends of Fanamby,
Each and every year Association Fanamby relies on generous donors like you to help us continue our essential work of managing five terrestrial and marine protected areas throughout Madagascar. These areas, which are home to Critically Endangered species such as the flat-tailed tortoise, the golden-crowned sifaka, and seven out of eight baobabs in the world, are experiencing unprecedented pressures linked to climate change, forest fragmentation, habitat loss, and economic inequality. But you can help!
This year we have partnered with Conservation Allies in a Year-End Fundraising Campaign. Starting on World Lemur Day and running through December 31st, Conservation Allies will match any donations raised for Fanamby. This means that your year-end gift will DOUBLE. A donation of $25 will become $50, that of $75 will become $150, and an especially generous gift of $100 will become $200.
Regardless of the amount, every gift matters. Your kind support will enable us to carry out:
- A reforestation project where we will maintain nurseries and ensure the viability of planted trees through community-based patrols.
- A lemur project where we will restore their habitat for their survival.
- An education project where we will raise awareness and support environmental initiatives amongst young people from the communities.
- A gender equality project that will include equal access to opportunities addressing climate and environmental challenges.
For the communities, their activities and operations will be more closely monitored and their responsibilities in terms of environmental obligations will be highlighted, even outside of the protected area. For the State, the various taxes and mining royalties generated by the operations will be paid directly to the corresponding parties (the rural commune of Betsiaka, the Malagasy State). The perceptible advantage is the effective involvement of the State in the exploitation of mining resources. Any exploitation action will be subject to validation from the ministry of environment, followed by a ministerial decree at the level of the Ministry of Mines. An environmental impact study validated by the National Office for the Environment, followed by an environmental specification, will also be mandatory for business operators.
