In 2010, a group of farmers asked for help from Fanamby to find better markets. Sahanala is born from that request. Thus, Fanamby started by gathering farmers within a formal structure. It also supported existing activities to bloom. Therefore, the economic interest group Sahanala was born.
Since 2012, Sahanala became a strong entreprise. With 7 000 farmers members, it is the leader in responsible sourcing. In addition, its members are present throughout Madagascar as well as its actions. In the protected areas managed by Fanamby, the partnership between both entities is evident.
Despite the commercial success of Sahanala, the image of Fanamby is linked to their activities. In fact, Fanamby is still the same non-profit since 1997. It informs and train local communities to increase their chance to access better markets. It aims to prove that improved livelihoods have positive impacts on the health of the landscape. Sahanala ensures that local farmers can market their products and ideas in a better market. Therefore, the approaches are complimentary.
